Eugene Smith has enjoyed over 35 years in public safety service, including a rewarding law enforcement career moving through all levels of a policing organization into an executive leadership position. He was concurrently active during much of his law enforcement career as a firefighter, in emergency medical services, and emergency management. The opportunity to experience first response activities from a variety of preparation and response disciplines created a unique and well-rounded career path focused on public safety leadership and community service. He operated in executive leadership positions in each first response discipline at various points in his career, creating a strong commitment to command, leadership, organizational structure, and a collaborative approach for building partnerships across first response agencies. As the owner and chief operations officer of High Focus, he builds on this background. High Focus provides consulting and training services for individuals and organizations in the development and implementation of professional leadership skills, team building, and crisis management, based on research, best practices, and experience, for an environment of expectant excellence. He remains active as a first responder working with the National Ski Patrol in outdoor emergency care and rescue at a local ski resort, and he maintains an active position with incident management teams. He continues to teach regularly as an adjunct instructor at the university and career professional levels.
